Special Session of the Permanent Council Addresses the Situation in Venezuela

On March 28, 2017, the OAS held a special session of the Permanent Council to address the situation in Venezuela.  Speaking on behalf of the U.S. Permanent Mission, Deputy Assistant Secretary Michael J. Fitzpatrick stated:  “This meeting is happening today because of the constructive spirit of a majority of member states that seeks to identify with precision – and honesty – the problems we see in Venezuela, and to pursue democratic solutions through good faith dialogue. The United States is among them. We are here today because we all want to promote such solutions, and because there is still a chance to pursue them before the crisis in Venezuela deepens still further.” Read the full remarks.
