U.S. Ambassador to Guyana Perry Holloway led the U.S. delegation to the 24th Inter-American Congress of Ministers and High Authorities of Tourism on March 21-22. Tourism authorities from 26 Western Hemisphere states met in Georgetown, Guyana for this OAS ministerial to exchange best practices in sustainable tourism. Delegates paid special attention to mitigating the impact of natural disasters on the tourism sector. The United States indicated it is studying an OAS-implemented project that would commit $500,000 to a Caribbean-focused small tourism business disaster resiliency initiative. With Guyanese President David Granger opening the congress, the event also celebrated Guyana’s strategic growth of its tourism economy.
