The United States believes this resolution sets a clear path for Nicaragua to return to democracy and respect for human rights. While the United States regrets that Nicaragua took steps to withdraw from the OAS, member states must remain engaged and do all we can to uphold our collective commitments under the Inter American Democratic Charter. In fact, Nicaragua must still meet its commitments under the Charter despite its recent efforts to withdraw. The region and the international community must continue to stand together with the Nicaraguan people in support of their right to freely choose their representatives.
